Soulstones, Daemons and SAC

Long time no update, I think I got some explaining to do. Well I got caught up in Diablo III. That game is addictive. But I doesn't mean I haven't been working on a fair amount of epicness concerning minis. I just didn't take the time to post stuff on the blog. I spent a lot of time doing the daemon prince which you can see below.

I started working on the base. I want to show a time freeze effect at the moment of the impact. There will be blood squirting from the paladin's chest, the sword is flying into the air together with the rocks, the ground is shattered and destroyed. Now I need to fuse the whole base with liquid resin to make it a solid piece so the rocks won't fall off easily. After all it is going to be a gaming model. The model itself wasn't forgotten as well. I modified the tail and the toes to make them more fitting to his dynamic posing. It was a suggestion I heard across the forums and they were right. it does make him look much better. I started working on his belly mouth that will be vomiting acid on another paladins back but I'm not sure if it is too much for this model. Already there is much going on on this piece. The wings are now magnetized correctly with 2 magnets for each wing making it always fit in the same place. When I'm done with this guy I will need to make a video update because I feel that the photos can't express the true awesomeness that this model represents.

Now time for the thing that some of you were waiting for SAC (subscriber appreciation contest) I'm going to announce the winner today so keep your eyes open. I can't wait to find out what model I will be working on ^^ Sorry that it took so long.

Have a nice day,
Brovatar

PS: How do you like the Daemon Prince so far?

Block out the sun

Some major progress on The DPoN project.Wings magnetized, legs turned out to fit great and work brilliant with the nurgle theme. Exposed bones and rotting flesh are almost the same as the head of the Daemon. Now it's time to fill the gaps, sculpt some pus-filled spots, maggots etc and of course add some chains, skulls, chaos symbols, heads, corpses, spikes. The fun part. After that I'll do the landing point, being the base with a lot of action as well. Now I think that the project will be finished sooner than later.

Have a nice weekend,

"Houston, the Daemon has landed"

Still much to do but now I'm waiting for the Zombie dragon kit to get to me >_< I got so wrapped up around this project that I'm very eager to finish it. I need to retain my discipline and wait. The reason is that I need to know where exactly the wings will be located so I know where I can put spikes, more corpses, bones, heads and all that chaos nurgly stuff.

Can't wait...Cya

Daemon Progress

Ok, got some progress on the DP. The head is 90% done. Now I will be able to start working on his armor. The exposed skull turned out really nice. For now my favorite part is the first war trophy that I made for this monster. I'm talking about a space marine corpse impaled on a spike that will be on the Daemon Prince's shoulder. I took the corpse from Crypt Horror set and glowed a head of a space marine on it. I drilled holes in every glass part to make him look really damaged. The rest is not near finish so don't judge me too harsh just yet. In the end it's going to be one busy model with a lot going on.
Can't wait...

So any ideas about what wings I'm using ?

Cheers,
Brovatar.

New Work in Progress

So I'm working on a Deamon Prince of Nurgle conversion right now, I just got started. He's going to be a really dynamic and big model with some nice effects on him. I don't want to go into too much detail for you but the client had some cool idea about the posing. The Deamon will be impaling his enemy straight to the ground while ascending rapidly form the sky.

I agreed with the client that the heads from the plastic box set didn't quite fit the "cool section" and were no near "nurglish" so I decided to resculp it a bit, quite a lot actually. For now I've done half of the skull exposed. There will be some more skin, the head will be bigger and of course one Nurglish horn ^^.

As for the wings, they are going to be the biggest, most rotten wings you can find. Anyone knows what I'm talking about? Stay tuned for some more updates.

PS: there's a competition that I've started so if you want to have a chance to get me to paint a model for you for free, now you have it: Subscriber Appreciation Contest

Subscriber Appreciation Contest

I reached the 100 members cap on Blogger and another 35+ likes on Facebook, this gives me a lot of joy and makes me very happy. Seeing that people like what I do and keep coming back to see more of my work on the blogger and across all the forums is one of the most rewarding things that a hobbyist can achieve. Your kind words, comments and constantly growing feedback is most appreciated.
I would like to give back a bit to the community, so I'm launching a contest in which the reward will be me taking a commission from one of you guys for one character mini, painting or conversion. 100% free of charge. I will cover all the costs of shipping. To win this free commission all you need to do is like Brovatar's Painting on Facebook and share this blog post on your Facebook profile. Entries are accepted till May 25th 2012. Full list of participants can be found here. After that I will make a list of the participants, print all of their names and randomly choose one. F.A.Q.
Q: What if I don't feel comfortable in sending my minis to you?
A: Tell me what army you have and I'll make something for you from the bits that I have in stock.

Q: Can I send you money to buy the miniature and convert/paint it for me instead of sending the actual mini to you?
A: Yes, that is an option. In that case you would get your prize faster.

Have any more questions about the contest, please send them to my e-mail adres and I will update the FAQ section with answers.

Thank you all again, you are a wonderful community.

It's getting too hot!

When you're facing the high temperatures of Nocturne, one thing that you need to watch out for is overheating your weapon.

Scout squad finally finished. I love how the Sergeant has turned out. When I was building this model I thought that the leader of the squad needs to have some battle trophies customed to his home planet. So I picked a head with a tooth as an earring to represent a fang cut from one of the dread-fool salamander monstrous beasts that the Sergeant killed. Also I gave him a lizard skin cloak from the dark elf corsairs box set. It supposed to represent the hide of another giant creatures. The squad looks quite unique and I think that it fits the salamander chapter very good. Remember that those guys will be for sale in a matter of days so if you're interested, keep your eyes open.

If you like what I do and you want to keep track of every new update, you can follow me on Facebook. And if you want to show some support you can share this post.

Which page massster?

At last, after a long wait he's done. The Necromancer conversion for Vampire Counts made from the Coven Throne set and some extra bits. I think he presents himself very well. There are some details that turned out the way I pictured in my head. I'm really proud of this piece. The engraving "Which page massster?" brings a little comedy to the model. It's a direct question to the Necromancer asked by his skeleton minion. The funny part about it is that the wizard is actually blind! But still it's Warhammer. He doesn't need to read the book to cast spells from it. It's enough that the tomb of death is made from human skin and written with blood.

The thing that I gave most attention to was the skull. For example the skull has only four teeth but I painted some more on my own to make it look more real. Also I painted the cracks on bones and the skull. The book is also really nice. It was hard to paint that tiny skull on the right page but I did it.
Hope you like him.
