Thoughts from the Depth #4

Hello Ladies and Gents, I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas and that all of you feel recharged and ready for some painting, building and wargaming. Having more time on my hands during those Christmas days I started working on the Dark Angels. Ravenwing the Second Company, as the fast attacking force of the Dark Angels went first. I've already painted one up so I got only six left to go. You can see a small gallery of this guy below.

I really like the dirty tire effect I managed to achieve using only water and Vallejo Pigments: Light Yellow  Ochre and Brown Iron Oxide. It does look really cool .

For all my Dark Angel I'm preparing some temple ruin bases. After all the hard work I have put up in building up all those bases I thought that it can't go to waste on one army. So I decided to make molds and I casted some bases. If anyone of you would like to have some of those bases let me know and I will get back to you ASAP. You can see one of the cast already painted up and under it another work in progress for the Flyers.

And for the end I leave you with a sergeant teaser....

Dark Angels OM NOM NOM

Hey guys, I got a present for all you Dark Angel lovers. Influenced by recent news I'm going to begin working on a massive amount of Dark Angels. The list is long and will grow most probably. For now there is all that's on the pictures and about 30 Tactical guys that I haven't photographed yet.

I got seven Ravenwing bikes, two Squads with a sergeant and a plasma gun. I like what they did in the Dark Vengeance box set with angling the wings of the bike a bit to the back but the old ones are quite nice as well.

I also have been building up a veteran unit of Dark Angels, don't know if eight guys is enough.

DEATHWING! Ohhh yeah I just love the Deathwing, it's one of my favorite armies. I'll probably do about 30-40 of those so it's going to be a lot of room for some neat conversions which makes me soo happy.

I took the head from Chaplain Seraphicus and made another chaplain based on it. I think he's quite ok. He's the guy in the left side of the picture. So now I got a total of 4 Chaplains a Chapter Master and a Librarian.

Rotting skin

I have been known to make some models look more rotting like or turn some humans in zombies. Today I'm going to show you a simple way how to make some deformations on the skin.

First thing you need to do is prepare a model. The surface should be clean and ready for some conversion action. For this example I'm going to use the shoulder of the wing arm of a Daemon Prince of Nurgle.

Second step is to make few cuts on the spot we want to convert.

Now you need to prepare a little sheet of green stuff  a thin one like a 0,5-1 mm. When you have your GS ready, apply a small drop of glue to the cut surface.

Now place your GS on the glue.

Now using a clay shaper, spreed the green stuff across the part and try to make it blend in to the surface.

When you have that ready, using a sculpting knife you can start making holes in the skin. I find that the best way for me to do it is to stick the knife into the green stuff and start moving it around to create holes. This way the holes are surrounded by more green stuff giving the imitation of a rotting wound.

This is how it looks all painted up. You can check out the full model over here.

Thalable the Starving

So another quick one for eBay. This is the fastest paint job on a large sized model that I painted ever. I build him Friday and he's already finished.
I did some zenithal highlights on this one. I really like the skin tone I managed to achieve with this technique.  I know that a lot of people like the Nurgle guys all bloated up and rather fat but I thought that Daemon Prince for fantasy would look cool being slim and rotten away like a zombie as a spell caster should be. For his left hand I used a crypt horror hand. I placed a spell book which DP is using to summon some slimy Nurgle spawn. For his right hand I went with the original Daemon Prince kit. This hand was meant to be much larger and more muscular so it would indicate that he uses this limb to slaughter through mortal ranks.
Here are Cmon and eBay links. Hope you like this hideous beast.

Knight of the Plague

To break the habit of painting everything red I took on a Nurgle Space Marine. I call him Knight of the Plague. He is slightly converted with a sword from gray knights so that's why he's a knight. I tried some new stuff on the base and the running slime coming out of the pipe is a quite nice touch for the plague marine. Ok I feel refreshed, off to eBay you go. Cmon link.

Khorne Week #8 Lake of Fire

The display base is done. Finally I can present you all the fruits of my work. I'm quite in love with this piece probably most impressive work of mine to date. Finishing such a project gives me so much energy and inspiration to start another one. It's most rewarding to see this done. Looking at it from a distance makes me feel like I'm watching a science fiction movie. It's a quite awesome feeling I must say. Khorne would be proud.

So I think that we can end Khorne week with this one, don't you. I hope that it was a blast and I didn't disappoint. Let's review. This week was mainly about finishing this project. We had a lot of Chaos Space Marines. From the newer models we had the new Hellbrute and Chosen of Khorne and from the older ones we had a Daemon Prince of Khorne and some regular CSMs and let's not forget Kranon. Also just before the KW started I made a Tutorial on painting Khorne Marines but I think it fits in the frames of this event nicely.

If you are actually interested in buying the minis for yourself here's an eBay link feel free to drop me an offer on eBay.

If you like what you see and you don't want to miss the next diorama you can follow me on facebook. It helps a lot.

Remember that I also take commissions for such display pieces so if you would like to have one done for your existing model or a build up from scratch I will be happy to accept such a commission.

Khorne Week #7 Daemon Prince

Here he is, the final piece of the "Chaos Legion" Project. Tomorrow you will see photos of the whole display board and every unit finished on it. I really like his base the brightness of it and the fact that I left the side of it orange/yellow is also cool in my opinion. It helps to distinguish who is in charge on the table and focuses the attention of your opponent. A true center piece of the army. I hope that the whole piece will drag some attention. In the mean time enjoy the gallery.
