Thought from the Depth #2

Busy week indeed. Unfortunately, not much painting done but I did manage to turn around few heads with my coconut article. It received a massive review on BoLS which gave me huge traffic so a thing to be proud. Who would have thought that it will make such an impact on the community  I certainly did not. But it did and now our hobby has become a bit more Eco friendly ^^.
On the other note I have started working on my Diablo III character. It's not a main project I'm doing, some sculpting when Horus waits for the green stuff to harden. He's going to be in a bigger scale something about 50-70 mm, don't know yet. Does anyone know by just looking at this leg who will it be?

Horus build is almost done I needed to make his cloak fully compatible to the rest of the model with magnets and green stuff before I could shape the wolf and the fur on it so not much noticable progress but it won't be long now. The client is still thinking of giving the green light for my brush on this so I'm staying positive. I will be ordering an engraving for him with the Lunar Wolves battle cry so he will get a little bit of extra awesomeness. This project will be so cool when finished...

After this I'm going to go crazy on my Chaos Display board unless someone drops me a ton of models to paint but I don't mind It will get painted up eventually.

Have a nice weekend and feed your Imagination,

Where's my wolf?

Horus build is coming to a glorious end. My main focus is directed to sculpting the fur section on his cape. At first I thought that I was going to do the whole model in on piece. I know how difficult painting models with so many details can be. So I placed magnets in the hands and on the cape. This will make painting of this model much easier for the client. I'm still hoping that he will commission me for a nice paint-job on this guy but that's not sure yet. I've shorten the bolters and now the "Talon of Horus" looks more appropriate. Oh boy, can't wait to see this one painted he will make an impression.

Remember, be happy about magnets and...

Basing with Coconut

Talon of Horus

Aka Power Claw. It's not an easy task but I think I'm getting there quite nicely  I started to build it from a Space Wolves Power Claw and I figured that the claws could look awesome as fingers of the talon. It was a really long process but I managed to make four fingers from the spikes and I made the thumb using a Hormagaunt claw. I have mixed thoughts about his bolter. I think I will shorten them a bit on the back. Also I won't add any amo belt to it like Abadon has it. He has shot out all the bullets at this point.

Fall of Demos

Today something a bit different than usual. I have a short text that my friend wrote for a project that we are working on together. I would appreciate some feedback from the community. So if you like reading fantasy it's just the thing for you.

Grayness was endless when he looked up trying to recall the beginning of the decade. Soaring towers of Demos that once served as the highest points in the capital of the Empire now became the dwarf ruins. Rain and wind left visible marks on the rocks, not less than axe traces. He looked up standing still, raindrops were falling straight on his face forcing him to temporarily close his eyes. So he began to recall the past. It's the place where there once was a throne room with monumental statues of warriors who gave up their lives in defense of  the Empire many years ago.  He finally remembered what he was looking for in the recesses of his mind and memory, there was a noise spreading in his head and he felt like it's filling the chamber. "Oh here he is! Teoris von Graitz! Killer of the vampires and all sorts of abominations, who in the name of the Empire, destroyed the enemy and did not surrender to the kiss of death!" - Corners of his lips twitched slightly and whispered: that’s pathetic. He was walking through the room and watched the faded banners.  It was hard for him to see the symbol of the heart pierced by the spear.  He saw skeletons all over the stone floor that have been here for a long time and were no more covered with the human flesh. He kept walking and to his eyes appeared the view from 10 years ago when he entered the room as a mortal... The throne stood on the top of the stairs, just over it he could see a large canvas representing the first one from the long-lived Valtir family that fought with Devion, The first Damned. Teoris stopped and put his hand on the hilt of his sword, and without moving studied every piece of the painting. - "Do you regret?" Said a voice hidden in the dark, Teoris was silent - he only turned his face guided by the voice- "You have the potential...he knew it and gave you strength..." The voice immediately was stopped by Teoris standing by him with a sword stuck in his chest and with a quick movement of his hand cutting off his head he said: I forgot what regret means .. Teoris turned back and after a while he went to the marble steps that led directly to the stone throne. As he was walking  he pulled out his sword with fire in his eyes. He stood in front of the throne and looked at the big painting hanging over him. A quick wave of the hand cut the painting so that the wind blowing through the ruined chamber carried fragments of historical battle in the farthest corners. He sat down slowly on the throne, resting his sword on the railing, he strengthened his grip  on the stone finials and biting his lip to the blood whispered: "Tressar will fall ..."

Wash twice

I found some old Photos of High Elves me and my wife painted up for the premier of the "Island of Blood". And I realized that I haven't showed the Gryphon on the Blog so now I'm doing it.

There is an interesting thing about wash I learnt thanks to this model and I would like to share that with you. As you can see all of the gryphon's feathers are brown. They were painted with Bleached bone first and washed with some gryphon sepia. The cool thing that I did here is that I washed the last section of the wings with a second coat of the wash giving a darker color and creating contrast between the sections. I think that washing twice is quite a useful tool so keep it in mind.

Horus Lunar Wolf

On a quick note, gargs are done and flying to Texas.

At this moment I will be working on a Horus Scratch build but not the Horus you all know so well. I will be doing Horus before we got tainted by Chaos. The Lunar Wolfe Horus.

This picture is my point of reference  Hope to make a model resembling the guy on this picture. The only difference will be the Claw of Horus. on this pic he doesn't have it.

Tomato

Here he is 100% finished with a little tomato companion. The little guy stole one of his cigars. That's not nice. I have to say that the cigar in the Orc's mouth gives him character, doesn't it? Sadly I'm not the one to paint him all up. Hope that we will see him in color soon.

Thoughts from the Depth #1

It's been a fruitful week. I managed to do some good stuff. Finished the Daemon Prince, got started on the German Orc, posted a sculpting tutorial. I think I like the direction in which everything is heading. People accepted my new layout and the whole name change. Most importantly I like it better now and I have a feeling that everything is looking more professional on the site.

Now I have few projects started at once but the biggest priority goes to the Orc and Pre Heresy Horus. Yep going to build Horus in none chaos theme. After that I'll probably finish up that Khorne force.

I was talking about starting a Death Wing army few weeks ago but now I have a bag of terminator waiting for the codex. I figured that it's no sense doing an army right before the new release. This one will be my personal army for 40k, hope that it's going to kick ass. There is a really good chance for that because it will be written by the same guy who wrote new Necrons and Gray Knights. But that codex will probably be released in December so you won't see any Dark Angel action going on for some time.

On the other hand I was thinking of a plan how to spread my activity on the Net and I thought that doing something entirely different from the GW franchise would be a good idea. I plan on doing something from the Diablo III Game and try to get it on their Facebook site to score some likes. But I'm not going to tell you what character I'm going to build. You will have to wait for it.

Oh I almost forgot, I will be launching an indiegogo campaign to build something that will kick ass so hard that it will make your brain explode. But I don't have the money to do it that's why I'll resort to Indiegogo, wish me luck on that one.

I leave you with a pumpkin i carved. I tried to make it look like logo of the Den, you like ?
